5-10 FUTURE YEAR PLAN
In three years time I will have finished my degree and hopefully a Masters Degree.
During and after my studies I hope to go travelling in order to gain some cultural knowledge and experience. I feel this will enable me to gain an insight into global approaches to interior design around the world which will inform my practice and approaches. Countries I am interested in travelling to are Japan and Vietnam as they have a unique and inspiring approach to interior design, not like anywhere else in the world and their use of materials has always interested me.
In order to gain some cultural knowledge and experience within the following five years I hope to have gained relevant industry experience and be looking to establish my own company within interior design. My focus area is unclear at this time, however I believe my education and experiences over the coming years will enable me to consolidate my current thinking. In ten years time I hope to be running a successful business and will then look to expand this and possibly move abroad.
HOW I INTEND ON ACHIEVING MY GOALS
To achieve my career goals I feel that the most important thing for me to do is to focus on remaining motivated and determined whilst gaining the knowledge and skills set to enable me to succeed. This will help me develop my creativity and experience which will the enable me to find my niche within the interior design world.
Currently I need to enable that I engage with all learning opportunities, communicate effectively with my tutors and remain motivated.
I feel that the current global pandemic situation may hold me back as I personally prefer and respond better to being in a creative environment where I can communicate easily with my peers and tutors and exchange opinions and ideas about the projects. I have missed the opportunity to practically experiment and feeling that having to study online is a challenge for a creative subject.
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
While in college I worked in an interior design high-street store in my local town which enabled me to gain some industry specific knowledge as well as first-hand experience of developing ideas with clients.
I was responsible for assisting clients with concept boards to scale, sourcing samples. I also contributed to the delivery of workshops or customers enabling them to develop skills in for example lampshade coverings / paint effects.
I have also worked within the hospitality sector where I was working as park of the front facing staff team.
I consider myself to have excellent communication skills and I am well organised and can work to deadlines. I set high standards for myself and others and am passionate about doing the best I can. I have experience of being customer facing and can respond appropriately to feedback and challenge. I am able to listen effectively to the ideas and needs of the client and then work creatively to create solutions. I am IT efficient and have had experience of marketing.
The employability skills I will may need to develop to support my career aspirations are related to business management skills.
